Su Shi (1037 ¡V 1011), the famous Song Dynasty poet, lyricist, statesman, gourmet adventurer and culinary master, borrowed the image of the ferocious beast of gluttony (¡§tao tie¡¨) from ancient Chinese legend, to describe himself as a veteran foodie (lao tao).
